Why Evolution Music Conservatory ?

EMC School

Evolution Music Conservatory is a new type of music education, combining traditional theory and learning with new forms of technology. EMC provides opportunities to learn, play, write, record, and love music. The Evolution team is made up of Donato McDermott and Sean Murphy, whose experience and passion for music led them to the founding of Evolution Music Conservatory. EMC’s goal is to take the current parent-initiated and enforced “once a week” music class, to a learning experience that will change the students and make them life long music lovers. EMC is an incredibly creative place where students learn about music and how to play an instrument in a way that that corresponds to their interests. The school encourages students to experiment with other instruments, create their own sound, and play music with other students and musicians.

Meet Our Instructors

Evolution Music Conservatory is an awesome place to learn to play music. Donato is so great and he’s helped me with guitar and piano and it’s a lot of fun to be able to just sit and play some music with these guys. I recommend it to anyone that wants to pick up a new instrument or one that’s just been sitting around collecting dust! I’ll definitely be back!

This place is great. My daughter is studying voice and they went out of their way to help me schedule drum lessons for my boy at the same time. The kids always look forward to their lessons, and with the little guy in particular (age 5) the teacher is super flexible, letting his interests lead the lesson. So glad we found EMC..

EMC offers a 12 week program to learn how to make music with your computer and IPad using Midi, Sampling, Apps, Software, and Recording. We feature monthly special guest DJ’s and recording artists.

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

I am an adult – can I take lessons at Evolution Music Conservatory?

Absolutely! We have many adult students who have become fantastic musicians.

What styles of music can I learn?

We teach all different styles at all different levels. We strive to tailor the instruction to the interests of the students to instill a life long love of music.

What if I want to try different instruments?

We have a variety of instruments available at the school and many of the instructors play multiple instruments, we encourage students to try other instruments.

What if I’ve never played an instrument before?

If you are new to playing an instrument, we will start from the beginning. All of our music instructors are experienced at teaching all experience levels from playing your first note, to professional musicians.

Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?

It is ideal if you do have a piano at home, Many of our students rent or buy small electric keyboards to practice on at home. We recommend a keyboard that has 88 regular sized keys and a touch sensitive response. (A touch sensitive keyboard means if you press a key harder it will play louder and if you press a key softer it will play quieter.

Do I need a full drum set to take drum lessons?

No you do not need a full drum set to start learning drums. Students can start lessons by using a practice pad. This is a small dinner plate sized pad that costs $20-$30 that is used for practicing basic drum rhythms.

I don’t have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?

Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask any of our instructors for advice on how to help your child practice. Simply by monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day will ensure your child will progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.

Can I have a trial lesson?

If you are unsure about lessons or which instrument to learn, we can offer a trial lesson.

How old should a child be to begin playing an instrument?

Each child is different, and it is never too young to introduce music to a child, however we typically don’t begin private lessons until the age of 4 years old.

How does the billing work?

We bill on the first of every month.

What if I miss a lesson can I make it up?

If you give 24 hours notice, we can reschedule with the instructor, if it is a last minute, the instructor will provide a ‘Lessonmate Lesson’ for you to do online.

What is Lessonmate?

LessonMate is an online lesson journal that informs families about what is going on in their lessons and helps students understand what they need to work on during the week. We set up an individual account for you on Lessonmate, so that the instructor can show you what to practice, videos of the lesson, examples of the music, etc.
